Lower left of the LCD are three holes for the speaker, and a small window for the ambient light sensor, used to automatically adjust the LCD backlight. Rather than silkscreen the logo next to the button, Canon's eliminated the doubt and put the logo right on these buttons. Five buttons left of the LCD are Creative Style, a new Rate button, a Zoom button, and finally the Playback and Delete buttons. Menu and Info buttons are well-placed on the upper left side of the LCD. Even so, keeping with Canon tradition, many buttons have shuffled around, and new ones appeared. The control cluster on the back of the Canon 5D Mark III resembles the 7D more than the 5D Mark II. Also from the 7D is the Multi-Function button behind the Shutter button. The 5D Mark III's power switch juts out from beneath this dial, as it does from the Canon 7D as well. The top deck includes a Mode dial with the Auto+ mode, combined from the Creative Auto and Green Zone modes on the 5D Mark II. The Self-timer lamp moves up to its usual position, and the monaural microphone moves from below to above the EOS 5D logo. Two minor elements are moved on the front of the Canon 5D Mark III: the Infrared port is now on the grip (where you'll find it on most every other Canon digital SLR with the feature), and the Depth-of-field preview button has moved to the grip-side of the body. Only height and thickness have increased a millimeter or so. That's 1.7 ounces (50g) heavier than the 5D Mark II. Canon specs the body weight at 30.3 ounces (860g) body only. The grip is sized right for the camera body, though somewhat large for small hands it fit my medium-sized hands comfortably. The size and shape of the Canon 5D Mark III is similar to the Mark II, only a little heavier. We'll go over the other features in more detail below, but the Canon 5D Mark III also includes a 150,000-cycle shutter rating a new HDR mode Full HD, 1080p video at 24, 25, and 30 frames per second a 3.2-inch, 1.04M-dot LCD a new CMOS sensor with higher sensitivity and an eight-channel readout that allows a 6-frame-per-second frame rate a Quick Control dial that includes touch capability for silent adjustments while in video mode multiple raw image sizes 100-percent viewfinder coverage with an adjustable LCD grid and AF overlay a 1.5 percent spot meter a dual-axis leveling system and Standard or Quiet operation modes. The 7D's 63-zone dual-layer metering system reappears in the Canon 5D Mark III, instead of the 1D X's 100,000-pixel RGB sensor. Other additions include a DIGIC 5+ processor, which is said to be 17 times more powerful than the DIGIC 4 processor in the 5D II. To help you decide between the two, here are links to a comparison of the Canon 5D Mark IV vs Canon 5D Mark III, and our Canon 5D Mark IV review.īy Shawn Barnett, Mike Tomkins, and Zig Weidelich The Canon 5D Mark IV (successor to the 5D Mark III) just won " Best Professional DSLR" in our 2016 Camera of the Year awards! The 5D Mark III is still an excellent DSLR, though, and would be a bargain on the used market, if you don't need 4K video recording. The Canon 5D Mark III initially started shipping in April of 2012, though shipments were temporarily halted while a light leakage issue was resolved in early units body-only street prices in early 2013 range from US$2,600 - US$3,300, with most authorized dealers hovering around US$3,000. (Shooting RAW avoids both.) No AF illuminator. Consĭynamic range is limited by noise in deep shadows Somewhat heavy-handed noise suppression and sharpening at default settings. Superb still and video image quality Powerful, fast, and accurate AF system with loads of cross-type points, loads of configurability and great frame coverage Rugged, weather-sealed body with great control layout and user-interface configurability. It suits the needs of well-heeled amateurs and working pros equally well, and while its resolution is only very slightly higher than that of the 5D Mark II, the Canon 5D Mark III offers so many improvements over its predecessor that it'll be an easy upgrade decision for many 5D Mark II owners. The Canon 5D Mark III is a true "superstar" camera, with impressive capabilities for both still and video shooting.

In MSPDebug, the transfers are reassembled into a continuous byte stream from which packets are then extracted.Īn example of a reply sent via multiple transfers from the device is shown below: However, I’ve never seen this from the eZ430-RF2500. It is in principle possible for a single transfer to contain fragments of multiple reply packets. Thus, reply packets are split into fragments and received over multiple transfers (possibly with padding). All USB transfers from the device are of exactly 64 bytes, but reply packets may be of almost any size. The device transfers replies from endpoint 0x81. For more details, consult the source code for MSPDebug (in fet.c). The first byte of a command payload indicate the command type (which is matched in the reply). Since they are delimeted by 0x7e bytes either side, certain quoting rules must be used for some payloads: An example command packet is shown and described below:Ġ0000000: 0c 7e 12 02 01 00 01 00 00 00 4f fc 7e Byte 0x00: The length of this transfer, minus 1.īyte 0x01: Command delimeter (always 0x7e).īytes 0x0a-0x0b: Checksum (0xfc4f) calculated over command payload.īyte 0x0c: Command delimeter (always 0x7e).Ĭommand payloads are variable length (but are usually multiples of 4 bytes). PipeHandle = 80e56994 Ġ0000000: 20 83 3b 00 0f 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 33 0fĠ0000010: 1f 0f ff ff 05 00 00 00 00 02 00 01 00 01 00 d7īyte 0x00: The length of this transfer, minus 1.īyte 0x01: Always 0x83, to indicate a buffer fill.īytes 0x02-0x03: Destination offset in buffer, little endian (0x003b).īytes 0x05-0x13: Data bytes (always N bytes starting at 0x05).īytes 0x14-0x20: Garbage to satisfy padding rules.Ĭommand packets are sent to endpoint 0x01 on the device to instruct it to perform some action, or to retrieve information. This buffer can be filled by multiple USB transfers, each of which contain part of the data block.Īn example of this type of packet is shown and described below: The size of this buffer is unknown, but appears to be not much larger than 256 bytes. These transfers are sent to endpoint 0x01 on the device to put data into an internal buffer. The first byte of all USB transfers is the length of the transfer, minus 1. Transfers whose length is not larger than 48, but larger than 16, must be padded to a multiple of 16 bytes, plus 1.įailure to pad transfers in this way seems to result in the device crashing, after which it must be replugged. Transfers whose length is larger than 48 must be padded to a multiple of 64 bytes. Note that certain padding rules must be observed for transfers to the device. For details of the checksum calculation, see the source code. The format of each of these three types of packet are described in detail in the following sections.īoth command packets and reply packets include a checksum. Reply packets A reply packet is sent from the device in response to a command packet (no reply is sent in response to a buffer fill). There are (at a more abstract level than USB bus transfers) three types of packets that are used to communicate with the device: Buffer fills These packets are used to send a data payload to the device (for example, a block of data to be written to flash, or a set of register values).Ĭommand packets These are used to instruct the device to perform some action. Made by a solo developer and priced at the one-time, buy-once-use-forever fee of $3, Noir is the Safari extension everyone should download and install. Screenshot: Joe White/Cult of Mac My favorite Safari extension For those who want to, there are a number of settings to fine-tune in Noir. And Noir also offers custom settings on a per-website basis, which is another excellent and well-thought-out addition. I’m also a big fan of Noir’s “Dim Images” toggle – it’s worth noting here that this can be adjusted using a slider in the app’s advanced settings. The reduced backlight from your iPhone results in a more comfortable browsing experience – especially when using your handset in the dark. Although the default theme is set to “Dark,” I’d recommend switching to “Black.” This latter mode works great with Apple’s OLED devices ( from the iPhone X onward), prompting the display to light up fewer pixels when producing the darkest shades of black. It’s also possible to tweak Noir’s theme for a better experience. Although this can be changed in the app’s settings, I’ve stuck with the default option. So, when your iPhone or iPad switches over to Dark Mode (which usually happens after sunset), Noir will do the same. Even more on offerīy default, Noir gets websites to mirror your device’s system-wide settings. On both iPhone and iPad, the experience is stellar.Īwesome Apps is a series highlighting the best apps around. It feels like something Apple shipped with Safari. Once up and running, you’ll forget Noir is even there. Noir puts an end to that jarring experience by implementing Dark Mode universally.Īfter enabling the extension, Noir forces every website to conform to Dark Mode, even if they don’t natively support it. Some pages load with bright, white backgrounds, appearing unreadable and jolting the senses. This can make browsing the web in a low-lit room, or in bed before falling asleep, an uncomfortable experience. If – like me – you use Dark Mode on your device, you’ll have no doubt noticed that when browsing Safari after hours, countless sites don’t offer their own Dark Mode. Noir brings Dark Mode to every website Noir makes late-night Safari browsing easier on the eyes. And whenever a friend talks to me about Safari, I tell them to download Noir. For both casual and power users alike, extensions have a lot to offer. They allow users to modify Safari, enhancing and extending the functionality of Apple’s built-in mobile web browser. While iOS and iPadOS 15 adoption may have been slower than in previous years, Safari extensions are one of the update’s best features. Following the launch of iOS and iPadOS 15 last year, Safari web extensions quickly started populating the App Store. In addition to this, in Manjaro it is easy to change and update Kernels to increase support.Īnother plus point is that Manjaro has its repositories to further expand the catalog of applications you can use. The main advantage of Manjaro is that t he installation is easy, you can choose any desktop environment, it supports a lot of hardware by default, and you won’t have problems with translations. In short, it has more outdated packages than Arch Linux, but with the promise that they will arrive soon in the repositories.įurthermore, the release cycle is very similar but with the added bonus that Manjaro does it periodically and resembles the Windows service packs of yesteryear. This allows developers to test the software a bit more for the end user. Now, it is said to be a different Arch Linux because i t is always a bit behind Arch Linux in its official repositories. What makes it so popular? Well, it provides all the benefits of an Arch operating system, but with a special emphasis on stability, ease of use and accessibility for newcomers and experienced users alike. Because Manjaro is the most popular Arch-based Linux distribution, and I think by far. If we discuss popularity, Manjaro has to be the king. Top 3 Arch Linux-based distributionsīefore we start, we want to clarify that they are not ordered under any criteria and that there may be more quality distributions with this parameter. This has led enthusiasts to create distributions based on Debian to offer other alternatives without giving up the origins. This is an advantage because it gives the user more control over the installation, but for many novice users it is a challenge that they sometimes shy away from.īecause of this, Arch Linux is considered very flexible as the user can customize it from the interface to the base components. The default installation is a minimal base system, configured by the user to only add what is purposely required. For this, they come with what for many is the best package manager there is: Pacman. Of course, to avoid accumulating too many of these, the development team frequently releases new ISOs for new installations.Īlthough there are other distributions with this model, such as openSUSE Tumbleweed, it is not unreasonable to say that the Rolling-Release distribution better than all others is Arch Linux. This model guarantees continuous updates and that t he user does not have to reinstall to obtain the new versions. Introduction – Arch Linux General FeaturesĪrch Linux is an independently developed, x86-64 general-purpose GNU/Linux distribution that strives to provide the latest stable versions of most software by following a rolling-release model.įrom this definition, it is necessary to mention the concept of Rolling-Release and that is that Arch Linux is constantly updated and there is no central version as happens with Ubuntu, for example, that every so often releases a new version. Today, you will know the Top 3 Arch Linux-based distributions. Fortunately, distributions based on Arch Linux have been created to provide an alternative without losing the spirit of the original distribution. However, the installation and configuration process makes many users stay away from using it, despite all its advantages. Arch Linux is one of the most popular distributions out there and is the Rolling Release better than all others in this world. |
